A Good Year? (extended)

Drew sat at the window of the offices above the diner and kept watch while Grace slept. He couldn’t sleep yet, not until he found somewhere that was completely secure. Morning was approaching and the sky was already turning blue, it looked like it was going to be a good day, weather wise at least.

Something in the air caught Drew’s eye and he leaned closer to focus on it. Gently floating across the sky was a Goodyear blimp. Drew let out a little chuckle. A good year? Not likely!! As the blimp drew closer he could make out more detail and he saw cables trailing underneath it with a man hanging from them, struggling to release himself!! Drew was about to go to the roof to see if there was anything he could do when the wind blew the man around to face him. Half of the man’s face was missing and he was well past saving!!

A Good Year?

Not my best work but unfortunately I’m having PC issues so the time I get is limited, if I don’t reply to people I apologise, I’ll try and catch up when it’s sorted.

Quiet Time

“Daddy, what’s a volcano?”

Drew looked at his daughter and smiled, in a world gone to hell it was amazing a child could still be innocent. He wondered how long that would last.

“Why do you ask baby-doll?”

“It’s a toy in the kiddy meals, we’ve not done those at school yet!”

“Do you know what lava is?”, Grace nodded, “well, when the Earth can’t keep it under the ground anymore it erupts, erm… spills out, of the ground through a volcano. They’re like a mountain and the lava comes out of the top of it, normally in places like Hawaii”

“WOW!! I wanna see one!!”

“Maybe we will one day angel, maybe we will…”

FINALLY!! The golden arches beamed in the dimming light, signalling civilisation. As Drew got closer to town however his hope began to fade. Cars were piled up at the drive through, trying to escape onto the roads with no luck. Bodies hung out of the windows of the cars like the people had been trying to escape or had been pulled out by zombies as if they were their very own happy meal!!

Drew ran into the restaurant, he didn’t care if he was loud he just wanted to find what he’d fought his way here for. He almost collapsed when he saw her, tears running down his face. There she was, playing with the moths that were seeking out the light in the dark, his beautiful daughter, Grace.

Concrete Hope? (extended)

Though I’d put on some of my earlier stuff as it was before I edited it to fit the Friday Fictioneers 🙂

Drew landed, or more like crashed, onto the floor. He lay there for a few moments trying to catch his breath as he looked at his hands, they looked like he’d stuck them in a blender. The climb hadn’t been easy but it had saved his life. He could still hear the moans coming from the horde that had clawed at him as he’d fought to get into this concrete haven.

Drew looked around and as his eyes focused in the dim moonlight streaming from the skylight he’d crashed through he saw the wooden beams and boards barely covering the walls. Drew realised that what he thought was his salvation was just a concrete coffin. He looked closer at the boards on the wall and noticed scratches running down the boards like someone had been trying to get out though the walls.

Then he heard the guttural roar coming from out of the darkness and Drew realised there were no doors, windows or exits where he could make his escape this time. He steadied himself, ready to fight…

Grace

These Friday Fictioneer pics really are inspiring me, I might actually be able to put all these down as a compilation at some point!!

There was no food. He just stood there slightly swaying, looking ahead, eyes darting left and right watching for any sign of movement. The field stretched out in front of him, the sun shining through the morning mist creating a vivid rainbow. Not that it mattered, it was lost on him, he just wanted food.

There was a sound behind him. It was quiet at first then, as he started turning around, the sounds came faster. Just as he was about to move a heavy pipe came crashing down on his head, caving his skull in immediately.

Drew stood over the zombie, panting. One more down…
